The Suhr Select Classic S Antique Roasted Neck guitars are a collaboration between Humbucker Music and Suhr and are available in very limited numbers.

We are VERY excited about this run! The Select Classic Antique is a reworked design of the much loved Classic Antique. Some small adjustments were made to bring these guitars a bit closer to vintage specs and feel. Here are those changes:

1) We went with the Hybrid Headstock as opposed to the smaller Suhr.
2) The neck is now Roasted Maple for more stability and a darker aesthetic.
3) The Gotoh 510 2-post bridge has been replaced by the improved John Suhr 6-Screw, Bent Saddle version.
4) We added a Push / Push Pot to split the bridge humbucker.
5) The locking tuners have been replaced with the lighter Gotoh Klusons.
6) The neck is now finished in oil instead of nitrocellulose lacquer for a smoother, more comfortable feel.
7) The hardware, knobs, and pickguard are now aged.
8) The nitrocellulose finish has a more authentic appearance to the medium aging.
9) This run comes in a variety of custom colors / pickguards not available on the typical Classic S Antique.

This run uses the popular low noise Suhr V63 pickups in the neck and middle position, and a Raw Nickel SSV humbucker in the bridge. As far as construction goes, each is built with a two-piece alder body. Alder is known for its rich low and mid-range tonal qualities. The body is finished with nitrocellulose lacquer to allow more resonance and feel like it's been worn in for years. The neck is made from beautiful roasted maple and features a vintage 60's C Vintage Standard shape with medium stainless steel frets. The frets feature rolled edges and a 9"-12" compound radius, great for smooth bends. These appointments create a comfortable, fast feeling neck with long lasting playability.

And of course, each Select Classic S Antique Roasted goes through the same renowned individual setup process that $10-15k Suhr Custom guitars go through. For the money, these guitars simply CANNOT be beat.

About the Pickups in this Guitar

Suhr’s new V63 pickups are wound to have the same tonal characteristics as those found by John Suhr in a particularly sweet 1963 Strat. The magnets are made by the same company that made the magnets for Fender in the early 60’s and use the exact same formulation and manufacturing process.

V63 pickups incorporate a modified staggered pole piece design to provide an even magnetic field needed to accommodate instruments with flatter neck radius and today’s string gauges.

Magnet: Alnico V Special
DC Resistance: 6.4KΩ (neck), 6.4KΩ (middle)
Hook Up Wire: Braided Cloth

The SSV Humbucker in the bridge has a broad sonic aperture with very little compression, making for a dynamic, vintage output humbucker. The SSV is a versatile pickup that combines the warmth of a vintage humbucker with increased clarity and definition. The SSV Bridge is wound a bit hotter for more output, increased sustain and a sweet midrange response.

If you're thinking about purchasing this guitar, here are some things you should know:

Suhr essentially has two ways they build guitars. Every guitar that leaves their factory is either a one off custom built guitar, or it's part of a small production run of guitars where each spec (body shape, wood type, fingerboard radius, neck carve, pickups, etc) is the same, but only the color is different. In both cases, the EXACT same people construct, paint, and setup the guitars. These small runs allow many things to happen to reduce the price of the guitar, but IN NO WAY sacrifice quality. In other words, if you decided you wanted a custom guitar from Suhr and you requested the exact same specs as a Classic S Antique in Olympic White (about $3275), you would receive the exact same guitar as a production run Classic S in Olympic White, but you'd pay around $4100, which is about 25% more.

Of course, there's nothing strange going on here. It's just a matter of the time and effort it takes to select different wood, retool machines, change out hardware, wiring differences, clean the paint booth guns, etc each time a custom guitar is ran through. It's just more efficient to run guitars in numbers, so Suhr is able to reduce the price and pass that to the customer. Again, IN NO WAY has any compromises been made. What that boils down to is if a production Suhr's specs meets your needs and desires, it's a no-brainer. Buy that guitar. A custom Suhr will be no different in quality. With that said, all of our special runs of Suhr Select Classic S Antique Roasted guitars are essentially custom guitars, but since we ordered in quantity, we were able to negotiate better pricing for our customers than a custom price. We are listing these at $3599, but if they were custom ordered they would be $4390. Even if we knocked 10% off the custom price, you're still looking at $3950.

So, we just wanted to explain that if you're liking the specs on this guitar (which we and Suhr carefully selected together), then again, it's a no-brainer.

Naturally, if you have any questions about this or any other Suhr guitar please feel free to reach out. We're more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
