Mesa Boogie Mark Five 25 Head, Fawn Slub
- DESCRIPTION
The Mesa Boogie Mark Five 25 falls right in line with what we have all come to expect from Mesa/Boogie. If you're in the market to buy a Mesa/Boogie amp, chances are that you are in the market to purchase a well crafted, brilliantly, engineered tone machine.
What's so great about this amp?
Well, for one thing the Mark Five: 25 is compact and easy to transport, weighing in at under 17 pounds! However, this is NOT the most notable feature of this amp. The Mark Five: 25 carries on the legendary tone of the Mark Five series by using its preamp, but combines the power section of the EL-84 driven Dyna-Watt series to create an incredibly versatile amp!
This dynamic combination, along with the 3 tonal modes on each channel, allows you to get all the best of the Mark V world, as well as the Dyna-Watt series.
On the first channel you have your choice of Clean, Fat and Crunch. With the clean switch setting engaged you get all those classic articulated cleans that you would expect from a full sized Mark V. The Fat stage in the middle position on the switch, gives you a round blues tone that's great for rhythm and blues picking. Finally with the switched into the down Crunch position, you get a great crunch tone that fits right in between the cleans and second gain channel. This setting can also be overdriven into high gain by putting the amp into the 10 watt Triode mode and cranking up the gain control, as well as the mid-boost. This gives you a well balanced lead setting on your first channel.
On the second channel you have 3 modes that have brought together all the best of the Mark V series. In the top position you get an original Mark V IIC+ tone with the added dynamics and mid tone of the EL-84 power section. In the middle Mark IV mode adds additional saturation and articulation to the IIC+ mode for colorful, high gain rhythm and lead playing. Finally, the Xtreme mode in the bottom position takes the Mark V gain to a whole new level of rock and metal. This mode is all about the attack!
With these modes, you essentially still have a full sized Mark V, minus the center channel, but without forfeiting any tone or gain.
This amp not only delivers all the best tone of the Mark V series, but it also lets you shape it with the on-board five band EQ, as well as the Treble, Mid/Boost, Bass, Presence, Gain and Master controls. The ability to shape your tone doesn't stop on the front of the control panel though. On the back side Mesa has given you the ability to set your Reverb setting independently on both channels.
To top it all off, this amp also has a built in Cab Clone! Giving you the ability to use head phones without a speaker load, record directly, connect directly to a PA system or blend your speaker tone.
Dimensions: 8" H x 14" W x 8.75" D
Weight: 16.5 lbs.

The new MARK FIVE: 25 provides a "greatest hits" collection of our renowned Mark Series preamp circuits served up with a brash new attitude all its own packaged in a unbelievably small size!
The MARK FIVE:25, like the MARK FIVE it is born from, is really a collection of iconic amplifiers. There are far too many circuits and sounds to think of it as merely an amp... it's a living history of MESA/Boogie!
From 0 to 5.0 on the MID/BOOST you will find the normal range of a standard MID control in a condensed form. From 5.0 to 10 on the MID/BOOST a wonderful graduation of overdrive possibilities unfold that enhance gain over a wide midrange spectrum and saturate with increasing thickness.
The on-board 5-Band Graphic EQ has been an iconic trademark of MARK Series Boogies since it first appeared on the MARK I back in 1970. The shaping power of this feature can't be denied, especially when combined with the MARK II and IV's tight, mid-focused gain sound. In the 80s the classic "V" setting of the Graphic EQ on MARK II and III models became an instant Classic. The Graphic EQ comes at the very end of the signal chain so you can shape the final sound with the only consideration being how much of a certain frequency your speakers, cabinet and ultimately your ears can handle.
The first feature of note starting at the far left of the rear panel is the Series, Buffered, Tube FX LOOP. The MARK FIVE: 25 includes a HEADPHONE Output for personal enjoyment of the amplifier when it is not possible to play through a speaker.
The Mark Five: 25 has independent REVERB Controls for each Channel. This allows different amounts of the all-tube, short-spring analog Reverb to be dialed in for each of the Mark Five: 25's 2 Channels.
Next up are the REVERB Controls and there is an individual MIX for each Channel. This allows different amounts of the all-tube, short-spring analog Reverb to be dialed in for each of the MARK FIVE: 25's two Channels. Anything from a subtle background ambience to a fully drenched effect can be dialed according to taste and musical style.
And last but DEFINITELY not least, is possibly the coolest feature ever to grace a MESA Rear Panel, the on-board CABCLONE D.I. and Cabinet Simulation feature. This built-in magic allows you to capture a wonderful representation of the sound and feel of the MARK FIVE: 25 direct to a Console, Converter or even direct to a Recorder without the need to mic up the speaker.
