Aesthetically, we chose to go with a\nParchment Pickguard on this guitar. One of the big changes we made for\nthis Select run is the headstock. Alder is known for its rich\nlow and mid-range tonal qualities as well as its lighter overall\nweight, especially when roasted. What you get are clear bell-like highs, warm and\npunchy mids, and big yet firm lows that are the hallmark of great\nvintage pickups, which aren't as common as one might be led to believe.\nJohn Suhr examined a variety of vintage pickups and found that some\nsound much better than others and took apart the great ones to find out\nwhy, measuring the gauss of the magnets to counting the number of turns\nof the coil wires.
