The Strymon DIG Pedal takes the classic voicing of the 1980's rack delays, doubles it with two simultaneous delays and brings it into the 21st century using modern day computing technology. The Dig produces incredibly expressive sounds with a huge range of endless ambient potential.
With the DIG you can create detailed, synchronized echoes and spacial repeats that verge on incredible reverb tones. The Dig features five rhythmic subdivisions and three dual delay routing options. From syncopated, pulsating delay patterns, to enlightening, spaced-out echo trails, the dig allows you to really expand your musical horizon without taking up precious space on your pedal board.
Primary and Secondary Controls:
The DIG features several primary controls, as well as secondary controls. By pressing and holding down both footswitches you can then access 2 to 3 different modes for each of the knob control. By holding down both footswitches you can then turn each knob to access each of their secondary controls.
The first delay is the Master Delay and gives you the ability to dial in your primary delay from 20 milliseconds to 1.6 seconds using the "Time" knob or Tap Tempo Switch. Longer delay times will produce ambient over-tones while doubling. Shorter times can produce slap back effects. While engaging the secondary function of Delay 1, you can set the tap tempo subdivisions of Delay 1 to dotted eighth notes, quarter notes and half notes (Quarter notes are set as the default).
The second delay, controlled by the "Time 2" knob, provides five rhythmic subdivisions to your first delay. These subdivisions can be configured to triplets, eighth notes, dotted eighth notes, dotted quarter notes, and the golden ratio which avoids creating repeats that stack on top of each another. Delay 2 also has the ability to create unsynchronized repeats in its secondary function. By engaging the "Free Mode" Delay 2 can be used independently to create delays to run alongside of Delay 1. Here you can dial in short delay times to create Chorus/Flanger like effects.
The Repeat control varies the amount of repeats for both delays, depending on which mode it is positioned in.
The Mix knob controls the Wet/Dry mix for Delay 1. Its secondary function controls the Feedback Response Filter, positioned left cuts the High Frequencies, Centered is a Flat response, and positioned right cuts the Low Frequencies.
Mix 2 Control:
The Mix 2 knob controls the Wet/Dry mix for Delay 2. Its secondary function configures the Delay Signal Routing, positioned left creates a series delay routing, center creates a Ping Pong effect (can be used in conjunction with stereo output), right creates a parallel configuration (Series is the default setting).
Series is like setting up pedals in a chain on your board, feeding Delay 2 into Delay 1. Parallel will orient your delay lines so that they remain independent - Delay 1 in the left channel and Delay 2 in the right channel. With Ping Pong, each delay acts as a ping pong delay, interacting together when both Mix knobs are turned up.
The DIG features three voicing option modes: Early 80's Adaptive Delta Modulation (ADM), Mid-80's 12 Bit Pulse Code Modulation, and Modern 24/96 (24 Bit / 96 kHz) Mode. Each of these voicing modes have their own characteristics and provide clean delay tone.
The MOD switch allows you to select the modulation levels of the delay lines. You can select to have it Off, a Light level of modulation or a Deep Level of modulation.
Other Modes, Effects & Features:
By holding down the TAP footswitch enables circular repeats, where both delay lines maintain a static volume and repeat continuously until the TAP footswitch is disengaged. At this point, all previous settings will be restored.
Input allows for the connection of either an expression pedal, external tap, or Favorite switch. Plug in an expression pedal and control any one knob with your foot. Plug in an external tap pedal to remotely tap in your tempos. Plug in a Favorite switch to save and recall a favorite preset.
TRS Stereo Input:
We know that there are some out there that like to run stereo rigs. This is why we've added the option of running the input of your DIG in stereo. Flip a jumper inside your pedal, use a TRS splitter cable, and now you've got yourself a stereo input.
